All American Quilt-Along Recap November 17 2020

All American Quilt Along Red Thread Studio

We were humbled to have over 300 people join the All American Quilt-Along! Even more thrilled at the prospect of as many quilts reaching our veterans. Thanks to everyone involved with a special thanks to our All American Team Lisa Sutherland, Combat Quilter Andrew Lee, and Maureen McNally. Plus, we’d like to thank our special contributor from Quilts of Valor Foundation, Allison Fentriss.

We were lucky enough to interview all four of them over the eight weeks of the quilt-along in our Facebook Live Interview Series. If you missed any of them, or would like to re-watch one or all of them, we’ve cataloged them here. Each of their stories is interesting, sometimes emotional, but definitely inspiring.

From Combat Quilter Andrew Lee, to Pattern Designer Lisa Sutherland, and Quilter Maureen McNally, and Quilts of Valor Foundation’s Allison Fentriss -- watch all the replays and learn something new. (Warning: you may need a box of tissues when watching Lisa’s interview.)

And, on December 7th, 2020 and in remembrance of Pearl Harbor and WWII Vets, Buster G. will be presented with the quilt pictured below. The quilt was pieced by Maureen McNally (foreground and photographed alongside Red Thread Studio's Jennifer Lee) and quilted by Combat Quilter Andrew Lee.

Buster G. served in the U.S. Navy 1942 to 1945. He was a second-class petty officer in the Pacific Theatre, stationed on the Aleutian Islands. He met his wife Eileen, who is 95, after the war. Eileen was a Navy Nurse stationed in Columbus, Ohio. They married shortly after the end of the war.

A special thanks to Florida Quilts of Valor (Allison Fentriss) for matchmaking our quilt.

Lastly, we want to give a big shout out and congratulations to Brenda Pasterniak, the winner of the All American Quilt-Along grand prize ($100 Red Thread Studio eGift Card). And another shout out to our winner Coreen C., who won our first prize, a copy of the book Quilts Of Valor A 50 State Salute by the Quilts of Valor Foundation and contributing authors with a foreword by Marianne Fons.

Thank you everyone!
