Full Circle - Giveaway! March 08 2016 39 Comments
I generally have a story about most anything, but this one I felt compelled to share. It is a story of generosity and of paying it forward (or sewing it forward, as I like to say). It also ends in a Giveaway for you!
This story starts at my first Quilt Market in Pittsburgh in the Spring of 2014. Here I met Jessica VanDenburgh from Sew Many Creations (and our Featured Designer in December 2014). I had been overwhelmed with the buying choices, and she graciously gave me her pattern Stacked which eventually became our first quilt kit at Red Thread Studio.
The sample quilt was soon pieced by my mother-in-law, Louise, and quilted by my friend Monica of Diary of a Quilt Maven.
Fast forward to the Fall of 2014 when I was gearing up to launch the website but was in need of a brand logo. Enter a dear friend from my childhood who also happens to be not only a high school art teacher, but also photographer and graphic designer. If you knew Andrea, you would know that she is a giving soul. She worked with me patiently to design the Red Thread Studio logo and would not accept any payment in return.
Now and after nearly a year of vending at quilt shows, we have only one Stacked Quilt kit left and a beautiful quilt that needs a new home.
Well, the Stacked Quilt is on it's way to Andrea, and I couldn't be more excited for her to open the box! I don't know about you, but my favorite part of making quilts is giving them away!
And, so that the story does not end, we are giving away the last Stacked Quilt Kit which includes nearly 7 yards of fabric and the Stacked pattern. Our only request is that you find a way to also Sew It Forward and keep the story alive.
You can enter the giveaway by simply:
- Leaving a comment below telling us how you would Sew It Forward with either this kit or another quilt you have made or plan to make.
The Giveaway is open worldwide and ends March 31st at midnight EST, and the winner will be chosen using random.org and announced on this very post.
Good luck!

Jen, The kit arrived today, and I was totally floored!! It’s so gorgeous! I didn’t receive the email notifying me I’d won, so I did a big ole happy dance ? Thank you so very much.

I like making quilts out of baby clothes, as a keepsake for the next generation.
Carolyn miller on March 31 2016 at 11:12AM
What a wonderful story! I use my quilting to pay it forward by making quilts of valor for our servicemen and women.

Such a generous idea to Sew It Forward! We have a women’s shelter in town that is always open to charitable items since they take in women in emergency situations and will allow them to live there for a time until their lives get back on track. I would make a beautiful quilt to donate to this shelter. What a warm surprise it would be to a needy woman to see a hand-made quilt on a warm, safe bed.

I love this idea. I’d quilt it forward to my daught, just as my grandmother and great aunt have quilted forward lovely quilts to me. We need to keep the tradition alive for future generations.
Delora on March 21 2016 at 04:41PM
I would love to make the quilt and give it to an underprivileged child in our school district. Over 49% of the children in our district love at or below poverty level! What a way to bless a child.
Bernie on March 20 2016 at 07:34PM
I seem to be giving away a lot of baby quilts…no grandchildren of my own yet (fingers crossed). So I’m sure this would find its new home for one sweet newborn
Debby on March 17 2016 at 12:23AM
So many people have been helping my husband and I as we build our beekeeping business. I would love to make the quilt and pass it on to one of the many giving people that have helped us grow.
Natalie on March 14 2016 at 08:03PM
I would donate the quilt to a local Women’s Shelter. I enjoyed your story! Thanks!

I’ve been making quilts from the variety of fabrics I have in my stash, I make them for Quilts for Kids. I just sent a box of nine quilts last December and have made five more in 2016 to send along as soon as I have a full box. I usually make large quilts (twin-sized or larger) but am having a ball making these smaller sized ones. I’ve learned to machine sew the binding to the back of the quilt and am quite pleased. I love your story about the Stacked Quilt. Keeping my fingers crossed! Thanks for the chance!

I love to find beautiful fabrics to make quilts that I can give away to those I love. I recently made a quilt from my colorful stash that has gone to my friend battling cancer. She will take it with her to adorn her hospital bed as she heads back for her second bone marrow transplant. And one of my favorites was a quilt made from my husband’s grandmother’s hankies, collected when she was a girl. We gave this quilt to our niece who just got married as a remembrance of her great grandmother. I would love to Sew It Forward with this lovely kit!

My sister is a neonatal ICU nurse. They need small quilts for mothers to use to cuddle with their babies when they finally get to hold them and take them home.
If sadly, the baby goes home to Heaven, they have a new quilt to wrap them in.
This is my plan to pay it forward.

I would give it to my daughter’s dance studio to be auctioned to raise funds for tuition scholarships. One beautiful art form used to support another.?
gail on March 13 2016 at 12:17PM
I’d quilt it forward by making this for my daughter!
Ande Mosher on March 10 2016 at 04:33PM
I would sew it forward by using it to teach my sister to quilt…she is FINALLY interested!
Patricia Chambers on March 10 2016 at 03:44PM
Beautiful colors. Would give a lot of comfort to someone I know who is entering the lost world of Dementia.
Susan York on March 10 2016 at 11:20AM
I’d sew it forward and make a quilt for my mum who over the last few years has been unwell with lung and heart issues.
Rosemary Gregoire on March 10 2016 at 10:52AM
I would sew something to be used as a prize for the long term care unit’s Christmas tea. My Dad is a resident there and his mother was a resident there so I always donate something for a prize.
Jo-Anne Cooper on March 10 2016 at 10:48AM
My quilt guild is aiming to make a quilt for every resident in Long Term Car in our local hospital. I would use this fabric to make a twin quilt and a wheel chair quilt.
Shaneka Giscombe on March 10 2016 at 10:09AM
I would donate the quilt to be auctioned off to raise funds to send young people to college.
Diane Brown on March 10 2016 at 08:04AM
So pretty! I’d donate the quilt in memory of my niece to a treatment center for anorexia.
Marian on March 10 2016 at 06:33AM
the beautiful colors remind me of a very good friend who is suffering thru treatment for cancer – it would definitely go to the center where she gets her treatments as a comfort to those there – they already have a couple quilts that are always in demand
Corinne on March 10 2016 at 01:43AM
Hi, I Love the idea of paying it forward. I would like to make this quilt for my mom who is living with Alzheimer’s.. She will be 81 years old at the end of May this year.
Barbara on March 09 2016 at 11:11PM
Love the quilt and fabrics! I would donate it or another one I make to one of several organizations that take quilts and pass them on to people in need of one.
Brita on March 09 2016 at 04:30PM
Because I love the fabrics so much, I must admit I would give this quilt to my granddaughter, who miss graduating from college this year. But I would make an extra comfort quilt for my guild to donate And, by the way, I’m excited that you’ll be giving a talk and teaching sashiko here this summer!
Kathy Meeks on March 09 2016 at 02:43PM
Many years ago my sister told me I should sell my quilts. People don’t appreciate all the work that goes into a quilt. My quilts are always gifts and I would make it for a veteran.
Beverly on March 09 2016 at 02:29PM
I love meeting you in Chattanooga and loved all the items you carry. I would pay it forward if I win by making and donating
a Quilt of Valor to give to our wonderful service warriors who give so much to our country to help keep us free in all the
many military fields. Thank you to all our military warriors and their service.
Janet Eidem on March 09 2016 at 01:27PM
Love, love, love that you were a vendor in Naples last month! I plan to stay connected to Red Thread! I would sew this quilt forward to give to someone in need. My guild gives many quilts away every year. This would be perfect, making the recipient feel comforted indeed.
Gina on March 09 2016 at 12:43PM
Love the Quilt. I would sew it forward to my daughter that loves quilts. She loves to quilt but she is always so busy making ones for others she never has time to make one for herself. I hope I win
tac on March 09 2016 at 12:41PM
What a beautiful softly colored quilt! I try to make quilts for those I know going through hard times. Also make for nursing homes. Thank you.
Martha Albert on March 09 2016 at 12:31PM
I met you at the SWFQG show in Jan. 2016. I enjoyed our conversation. Our guild donates comfort quilts to many organizations. I think I would leave the recipient to our chair’s discretion as she is pretty good at figuring out where quilts should go. My second choice would be Quilts of Valor.
Sharon Hendrix on March 09 2016 at 10:55AM
What a good story, I also make quilts and donate to different causes. If I win I already know what I would do with quilt. Thanks
Iris Biasetti on March 09 2016 at 10:17AM
I use all the lap sized quilts I make as charity quilts. Our guild supports several groups such as Hope Outreach, Broward Sheriffs Dept, St. David Outreach.. So we are always looking for kits, donated fabric, etc. to continue with our paying it forward..

Quilting is my passion,
I love to give away what I make with my hands, because it comes from my Heart.
Love this pattern, I would sew it forward by donating this to my local Little League for a fundraiser to help the youth of my community.

I have a beautiful child that I care for in Zimbabwe. Her name is Rufaro and lives a life I can’t imagine. I would give it to her. She would love it.
Mary Ann Richards on March 09 2016 at 10:07AM
The story and the fabric is beautiful. I also love to make quilts for others. I am completing a tablerunner now that is for a gift basket that will be in a raffle to support some of DAR’s causes. (I am a DAR member.) I would like to make a quilt that would benefit our Women Veterans who need support.
Cynthia Roberts on March 09 2016 at 09:46AM
I love making quilts for family, friends and community organizations. Love the Stacked Quilt pattern! I would Sew It Forward by donating this quilt to the Family Life Center in our county for their annual quilt auction. This auction raises funds for operating expenses as FLC provides clothing, food, and financial help county wide and depends on donations and volunteers to continue helping those in need.
Maureen on March 09 2016 at 09:46AM
Love the story of getting started…quilting always brings friends together!
Paige on March 09 2016 at 09:45AM
Beautiful fabrics! I know a young mother battling cancer who could use this!
